The slide above captures this project from start to finish with Before and After photos of both the Cafeteria and Dining Room at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, CA.

The original design definitely needed an update and the goal of the project was to create a comfortable, upscale and artistic space for patients and staff to enjoy that utilized natural light and allowed for better flow.

This project was completed without triggering the need for a permit through the city or OSHPD as no structural elements, electrical or heavy items were involved.

Using the existing and adjacent spaces, I created a design plan that left the floors un-touched to save on cost and was able to tie-in colors and patterns that coordinated, let natural light in and overall greatly improved the space.

To address the need for better flow I removed the existing condiment stations and created one long, central, condiments location – this eradicated the “bottle neck” affect that would consistently happen at the end of the cashier line.

Additionally, I created a lounge seating area at the main entrance and selected naturalistic, upscale art pieces to create the look and feel we were going for.

Patrons have commented “It’s so nice, it looks and feels like a hotel!”

-I truly love making spaces beautiful!
